CRITgroup was started in 2011 by graduates
from MIRIAD (Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art and
Design) at Manchester Metropolitan University but is open to creative practitioners wiht any level of experience or at any stage in their career.
It aims to facilitate an informal opportunity for those working in a broad range of disciplines to meet, share and discuss their practical work as well as issues impacting on their practices, be those professional or otherwise. While exchange and dialogue is encouraged, those who wish to attend but do not have new work to share are also very welcome. |
To date, those involved in the group have shared work ranging from Sculpture, Jewellery, Photography, 3D Design, Textiles, Book Art, Ceramics, Installation, Painting, Community Projects, Illustration, Tattooing, Curation, Social Practices and Graphic Design. We have now completed the first stage of our current collaborative project, which will run through 2013 and hopes to provide a basis for research into differences between disciplines.

CRITlaboration for 2013
At the inaugural meeting in November 2011 the possibility of a collaborative project was raised. After our first year of Creating, Reflecting, Investigating and Talking, we are now pleased to invite you to view our first collaboration. We have been interested in investigating the perceived differences between ‘art’ and ‘craft’, as this has been a feature of our conversations in several meetings. How does the apparent need to ‘label’ oneself as a particular kind of practitioner (a ‘photographer’, a ‘craft worker’, etc.) affect individual practices and how do those descriptions of discipline relate to differing methods of producing work? You can now browse the outcomes of our first project; Creative Whispers. This project work will be shown at a one day event on the 25th of May, when we will also host a series of investigative workshops. |

If you would like more information about the next event, to find out about bringing your work along, have a question about the collaborative project or would just like to be added to the mailing list, please register your interest using the form below.
