I’ll love you when you’re smiling, I’ll love you through the tears, I’ll love you in this second, And for my remaining years. I’ll love you ‘cause you’re hurting, ‘cause I’ve been hurting too. I’ll love you for the masks you wear, Though I’m really loving you. I’ll love you when your heart is shining, I’ll love you when it’s black And still I’ll love you even though you may not love me back. I’ll love you as a stranger, Whom I barely know at all, I’ll love you because in the dark I hear your anguished call. I’ll love you ‘cause you’re lonely, I’ll love you when you’re off with friends, I’ll love you from the start of time, I’ll love you ‘til the very ends. I love you ‘cause you are the Universe And the starlit sky. I’ll love you even though sometimes I won’t remember why. I’ll love you when it’s easy. I’ll love you when it’s hard. I’ll love you even on the days when like a driven shard, Into the very heart of me your actions cause me pain. I’ll love you in the sunshine, I’ll love you in the rain. I’ll love you when it’s bleak, I’ll love you when it’s bright, I’ll love you through the hardest day, And through the longest night. I’ll love you for no reason, I’ll love you just because I can. I’ll love you if you feel like you’re a woman Or a girl, a boy, a man. I’ll love you if I think you’re right, I’ll love you if I think you’re wrong. If you change your mind I’ll love you still; I’ll have loved you all along. There’s days when I’ll be terrified, I’ll love you all the more. I’ll love you when you’re certain, I’ll love you when you are not sure. I’ll love you ‘cause I’m angry that the world still brings you grief. I’ll love you in the moments when you find some sweet relief. I’ll love you when you make mistakes, And when you are spot on. I’ll love you when it seems so bad you feel like you have shone, the last rays that you’ll ever give. I’ll know that isn’t true. Still I’ll keep on keeping on and still I will love you. I’ll love you to the distant galaxies And to the oceans deep. I’ll love you in my waking hours And still when I’m asleep. I’ll love you ‘cause you’re human with a million glittering flaws, I’ll love you when your faults are brimming to your very pores. I’ll love you even though it’s true I may not understand, The reasons for the things you do, The cunning sleight of hand, That brings me pain and misery; I’ll love you and I’ll trust, There’s method in your madness, I’ll love you ‘cause you’re just, Another way of thinking of the concept that’s Not Me; I’ll love you as another eddy in the flux of energy That joins as one being. So even when you hate, I’ll see through to your hurting and then I will create, Yet more love to heal us. My love will burn so fierce that like a pointed arrow, it will find and it will pierce Through your fear and loathing until it finds a spot, To sew a seed of loving. However bad it’s got. I promise that I’ll love you even when I’m feeling hate, For goodness sake I don’t pretend to have attained enlightened state. For sure I am not perfect and I’ve been broken too, But that’s exactly why I will not ever cease from loving you. I love you ‘cause you need it And because I need it too And every day I’ll break it down and build that love anew. I’ll love you for your flesh, I’ll love you for your conscious mind And I’ll love you even when you cannot seem to find A single thing you think I’ll love and you may not believe, That these words have any meaning, You may think that I deceive, myself And that I’m fooling you to say my love’s so strong; But I maintain I love you, like I’ve maintained it all along. I’ll love you when I’ve run out of metaphors, I’ll love you when my similes are weak, After all, I cannot write it, I can never speak The truth of what love really is. We can share ideas at most, So when I utter along the lines of ‘my love flows from coast to coast’, I’m really trying to express a love much that’s so much more: A love that starts from even deeper than my very core. It’s a love that started flowing, before this globe took form; It’s life was forged in atoms, a love birthed in a storm Of nebulas and dust clouds, a love from rock and fire, A prehistoric love that’s burning like a pyre To annihilate impurities that keep us from its sphere. A love struck from a distance but A love that holds us near. I’ll love you when you’re stained. I’ll love you when you’re clean. I’ll love you when you’ve closed your eyes. I’ll love you when you’ve seen, a truth but still you’ve turned your back. I’ll love you ‘til you speak But even if you can’t, my love will not be meek. Still it will stand mighty, And strong and proud and tall. My love will form a silken net, to gently break your fall, No matter from what height, you plummet to what depth. My love it will sustain us, even beyond my death Because my love is energy, And you know that cannot die It cannot be dissolved any more than can the sky, So I’ll love you with that vastness; That breadth, that clear, sharp truth. I’ll love you in my old age Just like I loved you in my youth. I’ll love you until I’m empty But then still more I’ll love, I’ll love you right from underneath and down from up above. I’ll love you with my body and with my speech and mind, I’ll love you though I don’t know how to break the threads that bind Us to our suffering; Perhaps that’s exactly why, My love runs from before my birth, Until after we both die. I cannot help believing that love’s the only way to be, And I make no apologies if with my love I set us free.
