Hymn to the Bettisfield Well Beings
Well spring up!
From underground,
Dark earthy depths
Bring secrets found!
Leaping life
To sunlit air,
Liquid fount
Of crystal rare.
From rooty hollow
Of clay and sand
Bequeath to us
And quench this land.
Yet let us not
Deny the stones
That build the fields'
Supportive bones
For surely in that
Slumber deep
We all can seek
Much needed sleep.
Permit us now
Sink into you
And give this life
To pay our due
Though cold and dark
That tunnel death
We may then rest
To feed new breath.
As below
so is above.
May what tunnels down
Swell up with love.
In dark, in light,
Our thanks we give
For water treasure.
All beings live
Because your drops
Flow earthward bound
And green becomes
This Cornhill mound.
Well spring up!
From underground,
Dark earthy depths
Bring secrets found!
