Impermanence
The Sun has got to set
Before it once again can rise.
The only certainty in life
Is that every live thing dies.
You've got to close the chapter
Before the next one gets a look
Though it's eventually certain
That you'll have read the entire book.
You'll have to crush some chillies
To give a curry wholesome flavour
And you've got to have a bitter taste
As well as one you'll savour.
The sad days? They are there
To speed the happy ones along.
Enjoy things when they're right
But don't despair when they are wrong.
Nothing lasts forever
Not the laughter, not the tears
And your life is far too short
To fill with agonies and fears.
The sunshine's never further
Than the thickness of a cloud
And a rose smells just as sweet
When with the weight of rain it's bowed.
A bird will have to land and rest
Before it resumes flight
And the golden rays of dawn
Will always follow darkest night.
So keep your candle burning
And your frown it won't last long
Let your days be sung as sweetly
As the transience of song.
