The Meditation
Breathe in. Breathe out… and count to ten
Six? Nine? Eight? Just start again!
Am I focused? I’m doing it wrong!
I can’t stop humming that blasted song!
I must hoover. What’s for dinner?
Am I getting fatter? Getting thinner?
Did I send that email? I must check.
I haven’t dusted; oh, what the heck.
I can’t believe she told me that!
Now! Concentrate on where you’re sat
With loving kindness brought to mind.
Let’s go within, what shall we find?
I must buy ketchup, must buy soap
Oh, here we go, I’m losing hope!
Now can I sit and just be quiet?
Like I’m on a mental diet?
Patience! Surely that’s the key
To calm the busy, restless me.
To stretch and flex. Beyond I move,
Gently, from habitual groove.
I am trying, I am testing,
I am sitting, I am resting,
I am feeling, I am being,
I am sensing, I am seeing.
I am flowing, I am knowing,
Forth I surely am now going,
I am birdsong, I am river,
I’m receiver, I am giver.
I am flesh and thought combined,
I am ceaseless, soaring mind.
I am stars, I am moon,
I am never, I am soon.
I am mountain, I am tree,
I am you, I’m not me.
I am me, yet I am not;
I am you but you forgot.
We are us and we are neither.
Inhale. Exhale. Living breather.
