Placemaking work at Nexus | Last month I hung selected images from the I Hope To See project in the Nexus Art Café in Manchester, and was pleased to display one image from each workshop I had run with participants from Rolls Crescent Primary School in Hulme. Since then, I have taken the Placemaking Boards from the same project back to Nexus and used them at their Community Forum in an alternative to paper-based feedback gathering. These are now on display at the Nexhibitionists show at the same venue and on the 28th of June participants and friends were invited in to view the shows. It was a great opportunity to catch up with members of Venture Arts and Hulme History Society who attended the event. Both groups enjoyed looking at all the work on display and seeing the new I Hope To See photographs which reference the same areas in Hulme in which they also took part in workshops. |
As well as being a celebration of the completion of the Hulme Workshops, it was also an important opportunity to have conversations about future projects and following these I am very pleased to say there are now some fairly firm plans for new work with both groups. These plans form a key part of the launch of a brand new project which is only just live on the These Places Are page of this site; this work aims to continue facilitating opportunities for people to reflect on, share and discuss places which are important to them. Though it is anticipated that many responses to this will be generated during planned workshop sessions, it is also open to the public and booklets can be ordered on the main project page. I really hope that eventually we will amass a collection of responses from all around the globe and build an alternative atlas which maps personal as well as geographic realities. I Hope To See continues to run for one more week at Nexus (until the 4th of July) and Nexhibitionists at the same venue until September 2nd. | Example images from These Places Are |
