Mouse on the IrwellMouse on the Irwell
When I got a message last night asking if I wanted to go for a 'longish' run today with a few running buddies I don't think I'll surprise many by saying I was up for it! I had a 90 minute session on my plan anyway and it's always good to mix it up a bit and add some variety by running with others when the opportunity arises. Thankfully, the weather forecast also turned out to be less optimistic than the reality and we had really nice weather. It ended up being just me and one other in the end; the excuses for the other two being pretty good really in a recent arm-break and and a morning cycle that finished late (as part of triathlon training).

We took a familiar route up the Bridgewater Canal from city centre, round to Salford Quays and then back down via the River Irwell, but added a few diversions here and there for variety. We only ran for about an hour, not the 90 minutes I had planned for and I was glad to take it slowly in the end, just over 7 miles at roughly 9 minute mile pace. I was feeling my run-streak attempt in my legs last night with a couple of random niggles so I figured it wouldn't be such a bad thing to take it slow and cut it short. I compromised with a 15 minute cross trainer warm up and cool down instead; still 90 minutes but a bit less intensive!

While we were out I made the most of being with someone to get this photo; one of my favourite views of Manchester from a run route. I had hoped to submit it to the Runner's World City Rave Run but it turns out that's all over now and I was too late to the party! Never mind, eh? Here's a picture of me running by the Irwell anyway!

So that's Week One of Juneathon; only 3 left! The daily blog is currently proving more of a challenge than the miles though!
